This was, and still is, originally about demolishing this house which has some heritage value. SAPRA's heritage group is objecting to the demolition.
In November 2024 an Application to remove the restrictive conditions of title deed was published in the Provincial Gazette. At the same time, a notice was posted on the property advising readers of an Application to divide the erf into 3 parts. If approved, this would necessitate destroying the house. SAPRA filed an Objection.
An MPT was held on 19 June 2025, at which SAPRA argued that it would be more logical to await a final decision on the demolition request before debating the sub-division. This was not acceptable to the Tribunal and the hearing went ahead. SAPRA made it clear that it had no objections to the sub-division if the demolition was approved. As far as the MPT is concerned, the two matters are totally separate. We await news from heritage.
In the meantime the official finding and decision of the MPT has been received and can be read by clicking here.
