From the Desk of Caryn...

I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe and most importantly at home! I am not going to bore you with the reasons why, it is very clear why we need to practice social distancing and to stay at home.

I would like to highlight three organisations that have contacted me directly and that are in desperate need of food and donations to feed and clothe the many many homeless and starving South Africans. No pressure to contribute and if you already sponsor or donate money to an organisation then please keep doing so, this is just to send through more ideas and options as people have been asking.

CAN Network

Under the auspices of GAUTENG TOGETHER, Afrika Awake and The s Ingelosi Foundation are proud to announce the launch of The Parks (and Saxonwold) / Inner City CAN (Community Action Network) which will mobilise our local community to supply much needed supplies to the Johannesburg Inner City community. We need assistance in the following areas

  • If you would like to join The Parks ( and Saxonwold) / Inner City CAN committee please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • If you would like to donate funds to support Inner City families please go to our Quicket link

Once lockdown is over, the need will not simply evaporate and so we encourage you to please open your cupboards and donate any old clothing and useful goods as well as non perishable food items. These can be donated at our drop off centre at Meter Mate, 133 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood as soon as lockdown is over. These are difficult times for us all and any support you can offer will be appreciated. S.A. Harvest

THIRTEEN MILLION South Africans go hungry every day while ONE THIRD (10 million tons) of all the food we produce goes to waste. Since the COVID-19 PANDEMIC this HUNGER CRISIS is only getting worse.

Please can we all come together to donate food that is sealed and contained e.g. tinned food, rice, mielie meal, sugar, long life milk, washing powder, soap, bread, jams, cereal and fruit/veg. The SA HARVEST truck will then collect this food from outside my house (7 Ashford Rd, Parkwood) this Friday (24th of April) at 10am and deliver it to one of the beneficiaries below: Please leave it on my pavement before 10am on Friday.

Since inception late last year, SA HARVEST has delivered more than 90 000 meals; 51 000 of these have been delivered since the start of lockdown three weeks ago.

  • Afrika Tikkun Phuthaditjhaba Centres (afrikatikkun .org) in Alexandra township which feeds up to 1800 people per day.
  • Joburg City’s 3 Kotze Str ( this is the Joburg City’s homeless shelter, which is experiencing a huge influx of people during the lockdown and currently feeds about 2000 people per day.
  • Ikageng Soweto ( feeds up to a 1000 children daily, most of whom are AIDS orphans in Soweto.
