What we have done so far:

• Focus Group Meeting with Bohlweki Environmental Team (2 March 2009) – routes

• Formed a sub committee to deal with BRT issues - Included suburbs from surrounding areas affected similarly

  • -    Parktown

  • -     Forest Town  

  • -    New Killarney/Riviera

  • -    Houghton

  • -    Birdhaven

  • -     Melrose (tbc)

  • -    Melrose North (tbc)

  • -     Dunkeld (tbc)

•       Consulted an attorney – Legal - Addressed a letter from all suburbs to Council and Bohlweki attempting to engage them positively
•       Engaged a PR company
•       Fundraising
•       Q&A

Impact on Saxonwold / Parkwood

• •         Increased traffic flows – general traffic, taxis and possibly buses

• •         Roads are not built to handle heavy traffic flows other than for residential purposes

• •         Air and noise pollution

• •         Schools and children’s homes

• •         Pedestrian safety and freedom

• •         Suburb and resident security – increased crime

• •         Possible devaluation of properties

• •         Heritage concerns

Fund Raising

To pay for the legal and other professional fees which will be required by the sub-committee to influence the outcome in the best interest of the residents we will require contributions. Our initial target is to raise R200,000.
