Security Issues:

ADT reports that crime statistics show that the theft of plasma televisions during house burglaries is on the increase.   If you buy a plasma television, do not leave the empty box on the pavement with your garbage bags. Cut the box up and dispose of the pieces inside a black bin bag. You should take the same precaution with the purchase of similar electronic appliances.

  • If you are approached by corrupt Metro police officers please report the incidents on the Anti-Corruption number 0800 203 71 and help fight this scourge.

Car parks at stations are open from 05h00 to 21h00 seven days a week. During off peak periods 08h30 to 16h00 and 19h00 to 20h30 trains and buses run every 20 minutes. Security guards maintain a 24 hour presence in all stations, on trains and in parking areas. All Gautrain buses are satellite tracked and equipped with radio communications and secure fencing along the route and regular patrols prevents unauthorised access to the rail reserve.
  • Gautrain is a green way for all to commute – all activities are governed by an Environmental Management Plan with regular audits conducted by trained environmental personnel and by using the train, you can halve your carbon footprint which would be created if you travelled by car.

Public Roads & Miscellaneous By-Laws:
Proposed amendments are being made to enable the City to introduce a new parking management system.   Provisions include: parking meter marshals who will issue parking meter coupons via handheld computers; parking meter coupons that will display the vehicle’s registration number and the permissible parking period that the driver has paid for, and the clamping of the wheels of vehicles that are illegally parked.   Copies of the By-Laws will be on the City’s website available during business hours from 08h00-16h00 weekdays from Region B offices, 24 Fredman Drive, Sandton.    011 582 1400.

Constitutional Court Provides Certainty as to the Rights of Property Owners:
In a landmark judgement handed down by the Constitutional Court, the constitutional legal standing of the Spatial Planning Policies (RSDF) of Joburg and Town Planning Policies of City Councils across the country has been secured.   This will provide certainly to property owners who may be worried that neighbouring properties can be rezoned contrary to the local planning policy of Council.   The DFA (Development Facilitation Act) can no longer be used as a route to bypass the due process of the town planning ordinance application route.   The DFA was routed through the Premier’s office and several decisions in the past were in direct conflict with the approved policies of Council and also had a direct impact on the infrastructure plans of the city.
