Message from the Committee: Now that SAPRA has successfully restructured itself successfully the focus for 2010 is to consolidate our position and further raise our profile. A residents association is only as strong as the number of households it represents. Although we have a loyal following our numbers remain low only one in four households paid their membership fees in 2009. To understand how the residents perceive us we contacted twenty residents who participated in a survey. The results were positive but we are concerned about the disconnect between how residents see us and what we actually do. Changing this perception will be achieved over time by our actions and our successes. A starting point is to state that the SAPRA committee is made up of volunteers who are committed, dedicated and involved. We are qualified professionals and in almost all cases hold portfolios in our area of expertise; the heritage and densification portfolio is run by an architect, finance by a chartered accountant and environment by a climate change consultant. SAPRAs objectives are to uphold by-laws, prevent unbridled and illegal development and maintain the character of the suburb. Our performance is enhanced by having direct and regular contact with our ward councillor (Cllr Marcelle Ravid) and the Joburg Council.
